Icelandic Pop-Up Embassy
H.E. Kristján Andri Stefánsson, Ambassador of Iceland to the Netherlands, will on the 6th of June 2023 open a Pop-up Embassy in the heart of Amsterdam. This outreach initiative builds on the already strong connections between our two countries and aims to exhibit some of the best of Icelandic culture and contemporary art while exploring the possibilities of future cooperation. The Pop-up Embassy will be located at Cloud Gallery Prinsengracht 276, in the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage area of Amsterdam, the Grachtengordel, and will be open until and including the 11th of June 2023. The Pop-up Embassy is open to the public and free of charge, and anyone can visit and experience for themselves the unique and vibrant culture of Iceland.
Cultural events
As a part of the Pop-Up Embassy we will put on an exhibition of contemporary Icelandic art, titled Outside looking in, inside looking out, featuring works by some of Iceland‘s most exciting artists such as Hildigunnur Birgisdóttir, who will represent Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2024. Dutch and Icelandic actors will show excerpts from two plays by Tyrfingur Tyrfingsson, Kartöfluæturnar and Helgi Þór rofnaron Friday the 9th of June at the Pop-up Embassy, first at 16h and again at 18h, open to all while there is space. Tyrfingur himself, along with the actors, will then be available for a Q&A with the audience. You can read more about Tyrfingur and his plays here.
Icelandic music has inspired many and we hope to inspire you with the concert of up-and-coming Icelandic jazz guitarist Mikael Mani and the talented singer Anna Soley, will perform at the Pop-up Embassy on Saturday afternoon the 10th of June at 15h, open to all while there is space.
